County of Premium
The Florida county of a policy’s premium.
 
County of Risk
The Florida county of a policy’s risk.
 
Coverage A (Primary Amount)
The dollar amount of the insured value of a dwelling structure.
 
Coverage B (Garage or Appurtenant Private Structures)
Structures not attached to or part of the home, covered up to 10% of the basic home structure.
 
Coverage C (Contents or Personal Property)
Coverage up to 40 or 50% of the structural coverage of the home for the contents or personal property in the home; coverage up to 10% applies to contents away from the home.
 
Coverage D (Additional Living Expenses)
Coverage if the home is damaged or destroyed and the insured must seek temporary lodging.
 
Coverage Amount
The dollar sum of the scope of the protection provided under a contract of insurance.
 
Coverage Code
A numeric indicator assigned to each type of coverage by FSLSO.
 
Dwelling Structure
Refers to any of the following: Homeowners (HO), Mobile Home (MH), Commercial Property (CP), Dwelling Property (DP) and Apartments.
 
Electronic Risk Submission
An electronic submission of data (transactions) by a Surplus Lines Agent about a single policy.
 
Fees
Any assessment, or any membership, policy, survey, inspection, service, or similar fee or charge in consideration for an insurance contract. Excludes the service office fee and the Emergency Management Preparedness and Assistance Surcharge referenced in §252.372, Florida Statutes ($2 / $4 fee).
 
FEIN
Federal Employer Identification Number. Insurer and Agency FEIN's may be found via the Agency/Insurer search page of FSLSO Market Data Reports.
 
First Quarter
The period from January 1 through March 31 for a given year.
 
Fourth Quarter
The period from October 1 through December 31 for a given year.
 
Furrier
An individual or entity who deals in furs.
 
General Lines Agent
The representative of the insured, licensed by DOI to sell general lines insurance in Florida. Submits proposed risk to a Surplus Lines Agent(s). Sometimes referred to as a Producing Agent.
 
Gross Premium
Consideration for insurance by whatever name called and includes any assessment, or any membership, policy, survey, inspection, service, or similar fee or charge in consideration for an insurance contract, which items are deemed to be part of the premium.

Hurricane
A storm system that has been declared to be a hurricane by the National Hurricane Center of the National Weather Service.
 
Hurricane Coverage
Coverage for sudden and accidental physical loss or damage to covered property directly caused by the peril of windstorm during a hurricane. Hurricane coverage also includes ensuing damage to the interior of a building, or to covered property inside a building caused by rain, snow, sleet, hail, sand or dust if the direct force of the windstorm first damages the building, causing an opening through which rain, snow, sleet, hail, sand or dust enters and causes damage.
 
Hurricane Deductible
The amount shown on the Policy Declarations page. This deductible applies in the event of sudden and accidental physical loss directly caused by a hurricane to property covered under Section I of the policy if hurricane coverage is in effect.
 
Insured
Party covered by an insurance policy.
 
Insurer
Company offering protection through the sale of an insurance policy to an insured.
 
IPC (Independently Procured Coverage)
An alternative access to the non-admitted market when a policyholder or their representative purchases insurance coverage from an unauthorized insurer and there is no licensed Florida agent involved in the placement and no solicitation took place in the state of Florida.

Reports that are run through the “Agent Only” request will include reports of policies filed strictly through a Florida surplus lines agent. Reports that are run through the “IPC Only” request will include reports of policies filed strictly through representatives not licensed in the state of Florida. Reports that are run through “Combined Agent and IPC” will include both policies from agent filings and IPC filings.
 
Policy
The written statement of a contract effecting insurance, or certificates thereof, by whatever name called, and including all clauses, riders, endorsements, and papers attached thereto and made a part thereof.
 
Policy Fees
A per policy company or agent imposed surcharge comprised of inspection fee, administrative fee, and/or surplus lines filing fee.
 
Policy Term
The period during which the policy contract affords protection.
 
Policy Term Expiration Date
Termination date of coverage as indicated on the insurance policy.
 
Premium (non-statutory)
The price of insurance protection for a specific risk for a specified period of time.
 
Renewal
Automatic reestablishment of an insurance policy’s in-force status, effected by the payment of another premium.
 
Second Quarter
The period from April 1 through June 30 of a given year.
 
Stevedore
A person or company involved in the loading or unloading of ships.
 
Surplus Lines Insurance
Specialized property or liability coverage provided by non-admitted insurers in instances where coverage is unavailable from insurers licensed by the state.
 
Surplus Lines Agent
A Florida Department of Financial Services-licensed agent authorized to place coverage with an insurance company that is not licensed to do business in this state.
 
Taxes
5% of gross premium if the Tax Status equals 0 (taxable).
 
Tax status

FSLSO Tax Statuses are as follows:
0 = taxable;
1 = non-taxable airport liability/aircraft hull liability;
2 = non-taxable governmental;
3 = non-taxable for ocean marine, ocean cargo, and motor truck cargo.

 
Third Quarter
The period from July 1 through September 30 of a given year.
 
Total Policy Premium
The cost for insurance protection for a specified risk for a specified period of time.
 
Transaction
See Electronic Risk Submission.
 
Transaction Type
Numeric code designating the reason for an electronic risk submission. Possible values are (1) new business, (2) additional premium endorsement, (3) returned premium endorsement, (4) cancellation, and (5) renewal.
 
Windstorm
Wind, wind gusts, hail, rain, tornadoes, or cyclones directly caused by or resulting from a hurricane which results in sudden and accidental physical loss or damage to covered property.
