Connecting With Our Community

Connecting With Our Community

Over the years, the Service Office has participated and continues to participate in various community service opportunities to support and strengthen the local community.

FSLSO staff volunteers in various community activities, such as America's Second Harvest of the Big Bend and Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a local charity that provides beds for children without beds or a comfortable place to sleep. FSLSO staff helps build new beds, delivers beds to families, and assembles them with mattresses and linens.

Step Up for Students

Step Up for Students is a statewide organization that administers scholarships to struggling children in need of an alternative to the public school system. Scholarships offered are:

  • Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program (FTC),
  • Family Empowerment Scholarship (FES),
  • Hope Scholarship, and
  • Reading Scholarship.

FSLSO provides a generous donation to the Step Up for Students cause.

Second Harvest of the Big Bend

FSLSO volunteers through various channels for Second Harvest of the Big Bend. We contribute to and provide plays for the Ice Bowl, the annual disc golf tournament, to increase local awareness and raise funds. We also send groups of volunteers to the local warehouse to unpack, sort, and repack goods for distribution to those in need in our community.

Kids Incorporated of the Big Bend

During the holiday season, FSLSO sponsors a local family in need through Kids Incorporated of the Big Bend Holiday Happiness program. FSLSO staff provides the requested items to fulfill the wishes and some of the basic needs of the “adopted” family.

Emergency Care Help Organization (ECHO)

The ECHO Back to School Drive partners with the social workers at Leon County School System, Children’s Medical Services, and Florida Therapy to help families with major financial constraints, serious medical issues or those in foster families provide new clothes for kids for the upcoming school year. FSLSO staff adopts two children each school year and fulfills required and frequently requested clothing and school supply items, as well as basic needs.
