My time interning at the Florida Surplus Lines Service Office has been truly invaluable and rewarding. Over the past ten weeks, I’ve gained a unique understanding of the surplus lines market and learned from incredible professionals who are passionate about what they do.
During my internship, I completed the 60-Hour Surplus Lines Pre-Licensing Course which strengthened my foundational knowledge of the industry. One of my favorite sections covered the history and evolution of surplus lines, giving me a broader perspective on why the market exists and how it continues to serve unique and complex risks.
I primarily worked with the Agent & Insurer Services team, but I also had the chance to collaborate with and shadow other departments including Compliance Review, Production Ledger Review, Premium Reconciliation, and Communications. One of the most memorable experiences was participating in an on-site compliance review. Seeing firsthand how FSLSO supports industry compliance and protects the integrity of Florida’s surplus lines market was both fascinating and impactful.
I am beyond grateful to the entire FSLSO team for being so welcoming and supportive. This internship has shaped my understanding of the industry, strengthened my professional goals, and given me experiences I will carry with me throughout my career.
