My internship with the Florida Surplus Lines Service Office was one of the most valuable experiences of my college career. From day one, I felt welcomed by a supportive team committed to helping me grow in the surplus lines industry.
Throughout the internship, I completed both the 60-hour Surplus Lines Pre-Licensing course and the SLICE compliance education course, which gave me a strong foundation in Florida’s E&S market. Rotating through departments such as Compliance Review, Agent & Insurer Services, Premium Reconciliation, and Communications helped me understand how FSLSO operates across the entire regulatory ecosystem.
A major highlight of my internship was assisting Jimmy on a project focused on expanding FSLSO’s capabilities to other states. Contributing research and insight to this initiative gave me a deeper appreciation for the organization’s long-term vision and its role in shaping the future of surplus lines regulation.
This experience strengthened my passion for the E&S industry and confirmed my desire to build a career in this space. For any student interested in surplus lines, I highly recommend this internship.
