My time at the Florida Surplus Lines Service Office (FSLSO) has been an incredible and highly influential experience. Throughout this internship, my knowledge and understanding of the surplus lines industry has grown tremendously. This opportunity has helped me shape my future career goals and gain a clearer understanding of the path I want to pursue.
During my internship, I completed the 60-Hour Surplus Lines Pre-Licensing Course, the Surplus Lines Information and Compliance Education Course, and had the opportunity to shadow several departments across FSLSO. These experiences provided valuable insight into the many functions that support the surplus lines industry. In addition, collaborating with fellow interns and connecting with professionals throughout the Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) industry further strengthened my interest in underwriting and expanded my professional network.
Beyond the educational opportunities, FSLSO is an outstanding organization to work for. The culture is genuine, supportive, and welcoming, and I am grateful for the chance to see how each department contributes to the overall success of the organization. Everyone at FSLSO was willing to share their knowledge, offer guidance, and help us grow both personally and professionally.
I highly recommend that students connect with FSLSO through Wertheim College of Business events and pursue the opportunity to intern here. The experience provides invaluable industry exposure, meaningful mentorship, and a deeper understanding of the RMI field. Thanks to the guidance, kindness, and expertise of the FSLSO team, I will leave this internship with greater confidence, knowledge, and excitement for my future career.
