My internship with the Florida Surplus Lines Service Office has been one of the most impactful experiences of my collegiate career. Coming into the summer, I had only recently switched my major to Risk Management and Insurance and knew very little about the surplus lines industry. Over the past 10 weeks, I not only gained a strong understanding of the E&S market but also discovered how incredibly rewarding this industry can be.

One of the biggest highlights was completing the 60-Hour Surplus Lines Pre-Licensing Course and the SLICE compliance education course. I also had the opportunity to shadow different departments, work with SLIP+, and connect with professionals who were always willing to answer questions and share their experiences. One presentation that stood out to me was Albert Geraci's presentation from RPS on wholesale brokerage. Since becoming a wholesaler is my career goal, hearing about his experience and learning more about the role provided valuable insight.

I am incredibly grateful for this experience and for everyone who made it so memorable. This internship strengthened my passion for the insurance industry and gave me confidence as I continue working toward a career in surplus lines. I would highly recommend the IGNITE Internship Program to any student interested in Risk Management and Insurance.
